Physical material loan periods and limits

You can borrow a total of 50 items at one time on a standard library card. Different items have different loan periods and limits. You cannot renew items with holds on them.

Renewals

Items are eligible for renewal if:

  • They have not already been renewed the maximum number of times
  • They are not on hold for another patron

Eligible items automatically renew three days before the current due date. Each renewal extends the due date one loan period from the date of renewal. You may renew your item earlier than the automatic renewal date, but they will be due back to the library sooner.

Our different digital material platforms have different loan periods and limits. Look below to see how long you can keep your items. All digital materials automatically return to the library at their due date.

 Databases and research resources

Your library card gives you unlimited access to our research databases. These typically do not have loan periods or limits. Learn more about databases and other research resources.

 Hoopla

With Hoopla, you can borrow up to 4 items in a calendar month. There are no renewals, but you can borrow the same material again if you haven't borrowed 4 items this month.

 Kanopy

With Kanopy, you can stream up to 10 items per calendar month. Each Great Course only count as one of your monthly streams, no matter how many lectures you view. You also have unlimited access to Kanopy Kids. All materials begin streaming immediately.

 Libby by Overdrive

With Libby, you can borrow a total of 10 items at a time, and place up to 8 items on hold. You set your own loan period – either 7, 14, or 21 days. You can renew items an unlimited number of times, as long as no one is waiting.

Digital, student, and other accounts

If you have a Lincoln Public Library card in your wallet, you have a standard account. If you have an account through our website or Twelve Bridges High School, your account has different loan periods and limits.

Digital-only accounts

Digital cards cannot place holds on or check out any physical items. Digital cards do have access to our online collections and resources.

Twelve Bridges High School student accounts

Twelve Bridges High School student accounts can borrow up to 3 items at one time.
