 Request Vehicle Accident Reports
 

Vehicle Accident Reports may be released to persons with a proper interest in any required accident report and supplemental reports as provided in Vehicle Code Section 20012:

  1. Involved drivers of the vehicle(s) involved in the accident, or the employer, guardian, or conservator for the driver(s); 
  2. The parent of a minor driver;
  3. The Authorized representative of a driver;
  4. Any named person injured in the accident;
  5. The owners of vehicles or property damaged by the accident, persons who may incur civil liability due to the accident, including liability based upon breach of warranty arising out of the accident;
  6. Insurers for the involved drivers, injured persons, or owners of the vehicles or property damaged in the accident ; and
  7. Any attorney who declares under penalty of perjury under the laws if California that he or she represents any of the above persons. The request for the report may be made online or via U.S. mail.

The associated fee for the report request is currently $10 USD. 

All requests for information are processed in accordance with State of California data privacy laws and department policy. 

Please allow a minimum of 45 days from the date of collision to request a report.

Note:

  • Vehicle accident reports involving emergency vehicles, a fatality, felony hit and run, or a juvenile who is subject of a criminal citation cannot be released online and must be requested through the U.S. mail or in person.

To request a report through the U.S. mail, download and complete the Release of Information Form, mail the form including a $10.00 check or money order payable to the City of Lincoln to:

If you are unable to complete the form, please include the following information with your written request:

  1. Type of report
  2. Requestee name, address, and telephone number
  3. LPD report / incident number, if known
  4. Requestee date of birth
  5. Name(s) of subject(s) within the report
  6. Date, time, and location of incident 
  7. License plate number(s) or registration information for the vehicle(s)
  8. Your interest in the report (Above)
  9. Include release forms for authorized parties and insurance companies and proof of association for parents / guardians
  10. If you are an attorney for any of the interested parties, you MUST include the following declaration: "I declare, under penalty of perjury, under the laws of the State of California, that I represent the above-named person and that the other information that I have provided on this page is true and correct."

 Request Crime / Incident Reports
 

Incident Reports may be released to the following, pursuant to Government Code 6254(f):

  1. The victim(s) of an incident;
  2. An authorized representative of the victim, provided a signed letter of authorization from the victim is included with the request;
  3. An insurance carrier against which a claim has been or might be made;
  4. Any person suffering bodily injury or property damage or loss, as the result of the incident caused by arson, burglary, fire, explosion, larceny, robbery, carjacking, vandalism, vehicle theft, or a crime as defined by subdivision (b) of Section 13951;
  5. An attorney who declares under penalty of perjury under the laws of California that he / she represents any of the above persons. The request would need to include a letter of authorization from the client.

Crime / Incident reports can be withheld if the disclosure would endanger the safety of a witness or other person(s) involved within the investigation, or unless disclosure would endanger the successful completion of the investigation or related investigation pursuant to Government Code 6254(f).

All requests for information are processed in accordance with State of California data privacy laws and Department policy.

Please allow a minimum of 30 days from the date of the incident to request a report.

Note:

  • Crime / Incident reports involving cases of a sensitive nature cannot be released online and must be requested through U.S. mail or in person. 
  • The Lincoln Police Department records retention is approximately ten years. However, the retention period on cases of a sensitive nature (i.e. robbery, sexual assault, child abuse, homicide) have a longer retention period.
