Maintaining Lincoln

Maintaining Lincoln

Lincoln is the safest city in the County and a great place to live, work and raise a family. We’re working hard to maintain 911 emergency response times, and police and fire services while maintaining fiscal accountability. State and national policies, including both takeaways and unfunded mandates, have made it more difficult for us to provide the services, including public safety, that our community has come to expect.

Survey Results

A recent community survey identified the following priorities:
  • Public Safety – Maintaining 9-1-1 response times (94% important), fire protection (92%), police services (87%), and staffing levels for police and firefighters (83%) are top concerns.
  • Retaining and Attracting First Responders – 85% of respondents prioritized retaining and attracting qualified firefighters, while 88% prioritized police officers.
  • Safe Public Spaces – Maintaining safe places for children to play (87%) and keeping public areas clean and safe (86%) are essential for the community.
  • Supporting Local Businesses – 82% of respondents emphasized the importance of retaining and attracting local businesses to maintain a strong economy.
The survey results made one thing clear: maintaining essential services—especially public safety—is a top priority for our community. However, the current budget deficit presents a serious challenge.

Budget Challenges

Right now, we are relying on reserves and limited-term funds from Placer County to maintain critical services such as 9-1-1 emergency response, police protection, and fire services. While this temporary funding has allowed us to avoid immediate cuts, it is not a sustainable long-term solution.
