Due to our billing system upgrade, the Utility Billing Department is currently experiencing a high volume of calls and emails. Staff are prioritizing walk-in customers and the processing of payments that have already been received.
As a result, responses to voicemail and email inquiries may be significantly delayed. We appreciate your patience as we work through this transition.

Payment Fees: A 3.5% fee applies to credit card payments, and a $1.95 fee applies to eCheck payments. To avoid these fees, you may pay by check (mail or drop-off) or through your bank’s bill pay service.

Important Notice About Your New Utility Account Letter

The City of Lincoln Utility Billing Department recently mailed letters to customers containing their new customer number and new account number as part of our transition to a new billing system.

We have identified an issue in which the service address printed on some of these letters is incorrect. We sincerely apologize for any confusion this may cause.

Please be assured that:

  • Your new customer number is correct.
  • Your new account number is correct.
  • Only the service address listed in the letter is incorrect.
  • No action is required at this time regarding the service address.

You must mail your payment coupon along with your check payment to the address above by the due date. Postmarks are not accepted as proof of on-time payment.

There are 3 drop boxes for utility payments. Please do not put cash in any of the drop boxes. The customer will have same day credit if the payment is received before 5:00 PM.


The drop box locations are:

  • inside City Hall 1st floor, located to the left near the Finance Department.
  • outside in front of City Hall, located to the right side of our bulletin board
  • outside City Hall, across the street (behind the Art League of Lincoln building)

Utility Billing division can accept payments at the City Hall.  Front counters are located on the 1st floor - Utility Billing. Form of payment can be in:

  • cash
  • check
  • credit card

Non-Payment Data

In 2024, 294 Single-Family accounts and 0 Multi-Family accounts were shut off for non-payment.

Office hours: Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Closed on City Holidays.
