COVID-19 - Related Information
The Governor’s order for folks to stay home has everyone cleaning out their homes and garages. It’s the golden opportunity for spring cleaning, and equates to residents having more trash, yard waste, and hazardous waste to dispose of.
The Landfill/Materials Recovery Facility located off Athens Avenue is now back open to the public seven days a week and is accepting all materials (including recycling). Customers must wear a mask and use proper social distancing. See wpwma.ca.gov for hours and more information.
Universal Waste Program Restarted
The City has restarted its Universal Waste program. Residents wishing to dispose of electronic items, such as televisions, computers, and stereos (as well as automotive fluids) may call the Public Works department at (916) 434-2450 and arrange for a pickup.
Store Your Items
We hope that during this time of shelter-in-place (and spring cleaning), that you can store your bulky items and household hazardous waste (HHW) until all agencies are ready for collection of those items again.
Extra Trash Pickup
If you have extra trash or green waste that you need to dispose of, you are able to call in and request an extra pickup. Please call Public Works at (916) 434-2450 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The fee for an extra pickup is $25.
Temporary 3-Yard Bins Restarted
The City has restarted issuing temporary 3-yard bins. An application can be printed from the bottom of this page and brought into City Hall with the $25.00 fee to begin. City Hall is open 9am-3pm Monday - Friday. Bins are rented for two weeks and automatically removed after the two weeks. They may be rented once per year and must be kept on private property. Due to the popularity of the program, there may be a waiting list. Please call Public Works at (916) 434-2450 for more information.
As a reminder, we have cardboard collection bins for your use. These bins are located at Joiner Park and Twelve Bridges Library.
We thank you for your patience and understanding of service limitations during this difficult and ever-changing time. If you have any questions, please contact Public Works at (916) 434-2450. Our staff is busy monitoring the lines so please leave a message and we’ll return your call as soon as we can.
Thank you and stay safe!
Services provided by the City’s Solid Waste Division include commercial frontload, residential, and community recycling services.
The City recycles collected material through the delivery of refuse to the Western Placer Waste Management Authority's (WPWMA) Material Recovery Facility (MRF) where it is sorted and recyclable materials are separated. The MRF is located at 3033 Fiddyment Road (main entrance is on Athens Road). Click the link under "Downloads" for directions.
Each home is provided with one can for garbage and recycling, and another for greenwaste material. An exception to the greenwaste program is made for "cluster homes"; they do not have adequate space for both collections services. The greenwaste can is serviced bi-weekly. For more information, see the "Guide to Services" link under the "Downloads" section.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, routes may vary from week to week. To ensure timely pick-ups, please have your can(s) at curbside no later than 6 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
Missed pick-ups will be accepted up to 48 hours after the service day. The fee is $25 per container-full.
Please note: HOLIDAYS which fall on a weekday are serviced as scheduled.
For more information, or if you have a question about your green waste service color, please call the Public Services office at (916) 434-2450 or e-mail email@example.com.
