The Lincoln Fire Department is prepared to handle most everyday emergencies. However, during a disaster, the number and scope of incidents can exceed our ability to provide effective emergency services.

CERT Services

  • Firefighter “rehab”
  • Utility safety standbys
  • Search and rescue
  • Other needed activities that would release Fire Fighters for active duty status.
  • Community education, such as school and fire station visits, the annual Turkey Drive, and community events.

Training

CERT members must complete the CERT Basic Training Class, which includes sessions on:

  • Team organization
  • Incident Command System (ICS)
  • Fire safety
  • Hazardous materials
  • Terrorist incidents
  • Disaster medical operations
  • Search and rescue
  • Disaster psychology.

They must also pass background checks and driving record reviews, and take additional training such as traffic safety, power line and utility safety. Learn more with FEMA's free online introduction.
