LINCOLN CONSIDERING VOTING DISTRICTS -- NEXT PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR 12/10

Post Date:11/25/2019 6:14 PM

The City is considering moving to voting districts for City Council elections. The next public hearing is on December 10, 2019 at 6:00pm. City Council is seeking input on the following issues:

  • What do you define as your neighborhood?
  • What other neighborhoods are there in Lincoln?
  • What communities of interest are there in Lincoln?  See FAQ #10 for definition of communities of interest
  • Should communities of interest be united in one district (single representative) or multiple districts (having multiple representative)
  • Should the City have 4 districts and a city-wide mayor elected by all voters or 5 districts and a City Council - selected mayor? See FAQ #19 and #20 for pros and cons
  • Election sequencing currently has three seats up for election in 2020 and two seats in 2022 – should this remain the same?

Please see the Demand Letter, Resolution of Intent, the Public Notice,  and the FAQ (updated 12/04/19) for more details.
