DON'T BE A VICTIM TO IDENTITY THEFT

Post Date:01/31/2018 10:52 AM
The Lincoln Police Department receives reports from residents who have fallen victim to identity theft on a Identity Theftregular basis. Whether via the internet, over the phone, in an email or by regular mail, identity thieves are getting more and more creative every day trying to trick individuals into giving them just enough personal information to steal their identity.

Please remember:

• No government agency or legitimate company will ever ask you to pay with gift cards, iTunes cards, etc.

• The IRS will NEVER initiate contact with you via telephone or email. When the IRS contacts individuals about unpaid taxes, they do it through the US Post Office. When in doubt, contact the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040.

Identity theft can cause victims serious financial and emotional stress. Don’t be a victim! Closely monitor your credit card and banking statements on a regular basis for any unauthorized charges or withdrawals.
